After voting to increase student tuition by two additional dollars for the fall semester, trustee Robert Fall offered some personal help for those students who will be affected by the increase.
"Students don't sit in all our meetings and see all that we have been through," said Fall, referring to budget meetings.
"We have no other choice but to increase tuition," he added.
He could not, however, turn a deaf ear to the students who are struggling, he said. "I am going to donate $500 for a fund to cover the $2 increase for students that truly need it. Basically, it will be as though the increase did not go into effect for them."
Jerry Dasti, another trustee, said he would match Fall's donation. "I can't double it, but I can match it," said Dasti.
That is $1,000 in a fund strictly designed to offset the $2 tuition increase for students in need. The logistics are still being worked out, but Fall would like to see the OCC Foundation set this up and oversee the fund, he said.
