John Brogan, an adjunct instructor of sociology, gave his students a challenge recently to get 10 people to register to vote between February and May.
Mount's answer was to get 27 in three days. She said many students do not know how to register and added that many students have several misconceptions. Some think they have to pay to register, she said. Others are afraid they would have to perform jury duty, she added.
Mount said she got involved in this project because "tt is our world." She added, "Change takes time. That is why young people should be involved."
According to Mount, there was no mention of voter registration in the Toms River high schools. Mount would like to become a sociology teacher because "it is amazing learning about people, environments and their affects," she said
Mount, 19, does something else many people her age probably do not. She watches the news. "Channel 7 every morning," she said. Mount added she was not finished with her work because she had completed her assignment.
