Hollywood has created spoof movies on Star Wars, horror movies and teen flicks. It was only a matter of time, therefore, before a spoof was produced on all the superhero movies that have come across the big screen. Superhero Movie plays heavily on the Spiderman I theme to get the audience to roar with laughter.
The third installment in the Super Smash Brothers series was released last month. For those unfamiliar with it, Super Smash Brothers is a series of fighting games which star the major characters from Nintendo's flagship series. These include characters like Mario, Link, Pikachu, Samus, Donkey Kong and members of their supporting casts, as well as characters from a few more obscure series.
This is a time in which rap meets rock, and now rap meets folk and indie. Out of Denver comes Flobots. The group combines political rap, violin, trumpet and indie music to create a creative clash of sound and a deep message. There is an unsullied air of liberty personified into a composition that is free falling into industry.
The focus is on softer sounds, to calm nerves and maybe even allow thinking. The Toms River acoustic group Hold on Love presented itself to me, and even though the name is a little clichéd for an all-acoustic duo, the group has potential. The guitar sounds beautiful, and the group draws you in with two enticing voices.
